APPI PARATRIKE

APPI Power is the International Paramotor and ParaTrike Association responsible for licensing Pilots, Tandem Pilots, and Instructors around the world.

All of FlyParatrike's courses follow the official APPI ParaTrike Training Syllabus — a comprehensive, step-by-step programme designed to take students from their very first day to certified pilot status in a safe and professional environment.

Training takes place at our base in Murtosa, Portugal 🇵🇹 — with Bornos, Spain 🇪🇸 coming in the second half of 2026.

OPEN SKY & ADVENTURE PILOT

Your first six days in the world of paratrike. You'll learn everything from ground handling to your first solo flight.

OPEN SKY COURSE

🪂 Introduction to the Wing — preparation, untangling, folding, and care
⚙️ Introduction to ParaTrike — safety checks, controls, pre-tandem briefing
🔧 Safe engine starting procedures (electric and/or pull-start)
🔒 Clipping into the ParaTrike and Pre-Take Off checks
✈️ Tandem Flight 1: 30-minute orientation flight — your first time in the air!
🏎️ Static ground running — Figure of 8's, 360's, and circuit patterns
🪂 Unpowered assisted launch practice
🛡️ Reserve parachute practice deployments and pre-solo simulation

ADVENTURE PILOT LEVEL

THEORY & FLIGHTS
🌤️ Lecture 2: Basic Meteorology
📜 Lecture 3: Basic Air Law
✈️ Tandem Flight 2: 30-minute dual control flight — you fly the ParaTrike
🔥 Powered launch practice and refinement
SKILLS ASSESSMENTS
✅ Capable of controlling the ParaTrike on the ground without the canopy
✅ Capable of launching the canopy and controlling it with the ParaTrike running
✅ Correct Pre-Flight Checks, Site Assessment, "Weather to Fly", Motor and Canopy usage
✅ Capable of landing the ParaTrike while under dual control
✅ Minimum of 2 tandem flights completed (where legally permitted)
FIRST SOLO FLIGHT
📖 Lecture 4: Pre-Solo Flight Briefing
🎯 Flight 1 — YOUR FIRST SOLO: A multiple circuit flight of 20–30 minutes in an open, unobstructed area, in smooth conditions and wind speeds less than 10mph, under the supervision of your APPI ParaTrike Instructor.
COURSE 2 — 6 DAYS

APPI PARATRIKE PILOT LEVEL

Your final six days. Advanced theory, progressive flights, and cross-country navigation — earning your APPI certification.

✓ Written Pilot Level Examination passed

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Upon completion, your APPI ParaTrike Instructor submits a validated application to APPI Power with your completed logbook and documentation.

After review, APPI Power issues your APPI ParaTrike Pilot Certification Card — your internationally recognised licence to fly.

MEET RICARDO MACIEL

Your training is led by Ricardo Maciel, an APPI Power Master Instructor — the highest certification level in the APPI system. With over 20 years of flying experience across three continents and more than 1,000 students trained, Ricardo is one of the most experienced paramotor and paratrike instructors in the world.

A seasoned expedition leader, he has organised and led large-scale international projects across South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East — from the Amazon to the UAE. Certified as both Paramotor and Paratrike Master Instructor and Tandem, he brings calm, decisive leadership and a structured, safety-first approach to every course.
